Living about 30 km from my job in the city means that cycling to job is a time-consuming and tiring activity. So I need to find the shortest and easiest path for a bike ride. From the station in Indre Arna the journey by train take just 8 minutes. By touring bicycle I need about 100 minutes.
Between Arna and the city center of Bergen I normally cycle the northern route via Åsane, passing Ytre Arna, Nyborg, Eidsvåg and Sandviken. Between Eidsvåg and Sandviken it's possible to ride across the mountain Sandviksfjellet, also called Munkebotn. This is av nice path without car traffic, but I have to climb a steep road up to 150 m above sea level. The total distance from Arna via Munkebotn to city centre is 26 km. The road via Eidsvågneset is 2 km longer.
Alternatively I would like to ride the southern route via Nesttun, but the way between Haukeland and Helldal is very dangerous because of a narrow and very curved road with heavy traffic. The first part from Arna I use local roads From Nesttun to the city centre the cycle path have mostly good standard. The southern alternativ has about the same length as the Munkebotn alternativ, but is a few minutes shorter.
